Druid PvP - Don't Bring a Tree to a Gunfight

A quick one today.

The Tree of Life is a great healer. You get a 20% reduction in mana costs on heals and your aura gives your party bonus healing based on your spirit, which is probably on par with having an extra Wrath of Air Totem in your party.

So, why is isn't it a good idea in PvP? Well, let's think about it - you're just as squishy and you are effectively snaring yourself. Not too smart. If you're still not convinced, did you know that you can be Banished? Just say no to being a Tree of Life in PvP, especially Arenas.

Yes, maybe you will turn to Tree and save the day in some battle, but in general it's a very bad idea.

Note: As of the writing of this post, the notes from the Wrath of the Lich King suggest the snare will go away and you will be able to cast more things in Tree of Life form. Still, it will be situationally useful and it's even more of a "kick me" sign than having the Enchant Weapon - Major Healing enchant lighting up the end of your staff like a beacon for homicidal moths.

Getting banished is bad, but you're not always fighting warlocks so you're safe when there's none around.

It is useful and quite good in arenas sometimes, vs. two dps trying to burst down your teammate or similar. Of course if you're trying to escape from someone you won't get far in ToL, but it's far from being as bad as you say.

Thank you for the comment. :)

I appreciate that it can be useful, but a lot of things can be useful. I am going to stick to my guns that in general it is a very bad idea in PvP and arena.

There are exceptions where it can be useful, especially in PvE-like situations in a BG, e.g., healing the tank on Balinda. However, having to switch in and out and waste precious cooldowns to keep up with your team or get away from bad guys while keeping your heals going is too high of a price for me.

I disagree that it is far from being as bad as I said. If you never turn into a Tree you can be highly successful in PvP and Arenas. If you try to make it part of your PvP/Arena toolkit, it may seriously bite you and your team in the ass. Ergo, I will stand by my notion that the best message is that in PvP/Arena it is generally a very bad idea.
